Guest Post

Today I have Andrea from Oak Ridge Revival guest posting about her sanctuary in her home.  You can see other bloggers sanctuaries here & here.  I love that all of the contributors have had a different room in their home that's their sanctuary.

When Lauren asked me to guest post about "My Sanctuary", I knew exactly which room in my home that would be, our kitchen.  Our kitchen was definitely a labor of love.  When we bought our big fixer upper in 2009, we knew we wanted the kitchen to be the heart of the home.  After many long hours of planning and many long months of renovations, we finally got our dream kitchen.

Here it is now...

And this is how it started....

We opened up the wall in between the dining room and the kitchen to make one big open space.

So while we don't technically have a separate dining room the dining space
we do have is just what we wanted, a casual space to gather and share meals.

Other than the custom cabinets, the Sub Zero refrigerator was our big splurge.
We bought a floor model from an appliance store and had our cabinet maker
add the custom panels to match our cabinet doors.

This cabinet is one of my favorite features. It keeps our wine glasses handy for entertaining.

This is another one of my favorite features.  I collect pitchers and this is the perfect spot to display them.

I wanted the cabinets to have the look of furniture so I had the cabinet maker include tons of drawers.

Rather than having a built in desk in the kitchen, we opted to use an antique secretary.
I love having a workspace right in the heart of the home.
It's a great place to pay bills, sign school papers and keep everything organized.

We spend 90% of our time in the kitchen.
We cook here, entertain here, do homework here,
work on craft projects here and sometimes we even turn up the music
and dance right there in the middle of the island.
It truly is my favorite spot in our home.
I hope you enjoyed the tour and be sure to stop over and check out the rest of our renovations here.

Thanks for sharing your sanctuary with us.  Such a great transformation!
